Bettie Page, An American Icon
The incredible Bettie Page died this week at age 85 in a Los Angelos hospital. Like Marilyn Monroe to 
whom she was compared, Bettie was an oft-photographed sex symbol. Both women appeared on covers of Hugh Hefner’s fledgling Playboy magazine. They were the dark and light of sexuality in the 50s–for more reasons than the contrast of brunette and blonde. Bettie posed for bondage and fetish photos and starred in little films that were quite outrageous by the standards of their day. She was Sex’s Really Bad Girl. (Marilyn just played a bit naughty on screen.)
